Gourmet events in the Dordogne and Limousin

Both the Dordogne and the Limousin produce a huge amount of specialist food, much world-renowned. In celebration of these fine cuisines, you will find a superb array of festivals and events throughout the year. Here are just a few examples: 


  • Truffle Festival Sarlat (Dordogne) an event on the third weekend in January celebrating every aspect of the Perigord black truffle


  • Goose Fair Sarlat (Dordogne) held over 2 days in early March with geese parading through the town, cookery demonstration much consuming of goose


  • Snail festival at Bertric Buree (Dordogne) in the first weekend of the month where over 100 000 are cooked!
  • Strawberry festival in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, held on the second Sunday of the month
  • Cheese festival in Rocamadour on Whit Sunday showcasing the best of French cheese


  • Lamb festival in Bellac (Limousin) with the Grand Chapter of the Lamb Brotherhood and a procession


  • The good eating festival at Piages in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park
  • Chefs’ roundtable at the Lanaud Centre in Boisseuil (Limousin): demonstrations of recipes using limousin beef and catering
  • Snail Festival in La Coquille (Dordogne)


  • Limousin beef day at Saint-Léonard de Noblat (Limousin)

  • Ovine Tech at Bellac (Limousin) which is a trade fair where sheep take pride of place

  • Ancient apple varieties day at Magnac-Bourg
  • Frairie des petits ventres gastronomy festival in Limoges every 3rd Friday in October in the Boucherie quarter. 
  • Sweet chestnut festival at Dournazac (Limousin)

  • Gourmet autumn in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park


  • Apples and other local fruit at Mortemart by the West Limousin apple crunchers association (Limousin)
  • Orchard apple festival at Saint-Just le Martel (Limousin)
  • Turkey Fair at Varaignes (Dordogne) held since 16th century where Turkeys parade through the town plus turkey banquet
  • Gourmet book festival in Perigueux held every 2 years on the odds. Includes cookery demos, food pairing and other culinary delights
  • New Beaujolais third Thursday in Month 


  • Capon festival at Blond (Limousin) with a Brotherhoods’ procession and capon racing 
  • Christmas markets in Limoges and the Haute-Vienne


  • Goose and duck produce festival in Limoges and Saint-Yrieix la Perche (Limousin)
